Questions about Variant Nutrition? We have the answers!
1. How can I enjoy Variant Nutrition protein cookie mix?
You can eat it raw or heat and eat it baked. All you need to do is add water to the mix and decide if you’re feeling cookie dough or warm baked cookies.
We like to split it in half and have both--YUM!
For raw cookies:
Add ¼ cup of water and eat from the bowl. Add an extra tablespoon for stickier dough.
For baked cookies:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and grease a cookie sheet.
Take your dough (the one you added the ¼ cup of water to) and start scooping out cookie dough balls.
Once all your cookies are on the cookie sheet, lightly press your dough balls in the center with a spoon, fork, or hand. Variant Nutrition cookie mix doesn’t have much spread when baking, so make sure to form your cookie shape before baking.
-- If your dough is sticking to your utensil or hand, dip your utensil/hand in water and press down dough.
-- For round cookies, use a cookie cutter to press the dough inside or to cut off the extra dough.
Bake for 6 to 8 minutes, then cool, and enjoy!
2. How is the cookie dough safe to eat raw?
Variant Nutrition mixes use a blend of peanut and coconut flour with protein powders to bring a flavorful, slightly nutty taste for safe-to-eat raw cookie dough. In addition, powdered egg whites are added to our ingredients and are perfectly healthy to eat because they are pasteurized and dried by heat, removing the risk of salmonella.
3. How much water do I add to make my cookie dough?
Start with 1/4 cup of water. Some mixtures are a little thirstier and need an additional tablespoon (or two!) of water. If you’ve blended your dough (stirring, pressing against the side of your bowl) and it’s still dry and crumbly, you will need to add more moisture to it to get the perfect cookie dough texture.
If you're baking at high altitudes, your mix may need more water, but it's still recommended to add 1 tbsp of water and stir before deciding to add more water.
4. How long do I bake my cookies?
Our best cookies bake at 350 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes.* We think the cookies are best when they start to brown on the bottom with a soft, gooey center.
*This information is based on baking a full mix.*
Oven temperatures and times vary, and depending on your oven and if you live in a high altitude location, you may need to adjust your baking time.
DON’T BURN THEM! Variant Nutrition cookie mix is blended with whey and casein protein powder and tends to burn FASTER if you leave it in the oven for too long, so we suggest watching them closely because burnt protein is no good.
5. Can I store the cookie dough/cookies for later?
If you can restrain from eating it all in one sitting, you should store the cookie dough covered in the fridge for up to two weeks. If you want to keep the cooking dough longer, freeze the cookie dough in an airtight container. For baked cookies, you can store in a sealed container on the counter for up to a week.

10. How many cookies are in a package?
Our serving size is three cookies and around 19g to 25g (water added) per one cookie, depending on the flavor. Each Variant Nutrition cookie mix makes 12 cookies, but this depends on how big (or small) you like your cookies.

Expiration dates vary by ingredients used, but all ingredients are items you would find in your kitchen.
Variant Nutrition mixes are best used within 6 months of purchase.
12. Can you add other ingredients to Variant Nutrition mixes?
Absolutely! Variant Nutrition is designed to mix things up and fit your lifestyle, and if you want to add more chocolate chips, raisins, nuts, or sugar, go ahead!
13. What about adding in a different wet ingredient other than water?
Oh, you're talking peanut butter, apple sauce, greek yogurt, almond milk, etc? All of those ingredients sound yummy, but you're going to get a different variant of our mix--which isn't a bad thing at all!
Water is our favorite to add because it's easy and has zero calories, but if you got the macros and want to experiment, adding in another wet ingredient will change the variables of texture, cooking time, and taste.

14. What if I forget to flatten the cookies before baking?
You made a delicious decision. Not flattening the cookie dough balls before baking will make the cookie puff up a bit and stay in sphere form with an extra doughy center.
15. Can the mix be microwaved?
In a pinch, yes! We found the best way to microwave the protein cookie mix is to take a serving size of the mix and add 2 tablespoons of water to a bowl. You'll want the mix a little wetter like cake batter. Stir your mix and then add it to the microwave for 30 seconds. You don't want to heat it too much and get a rubber texture, so monitor it closely.
